What kinds of work do you offer?
WorkwithSchools offer ad hoc day to long term temporary bookings and permanent roles. These roles are on a part or full time basis and include supply teaching, teaching assistants, school administrators and any other school support roles in York and surrounding areas.
I am looking to become a Teaching Assistant, can you help with this?
Yes we can. It is not necessarily about having a formal qualification so much as the experience. If you have recently volunteered in a school and can get someone from the school to give us a positive reference on your classroom abilities (such as the Class Teacher), we can consider you for work. We can discuss at interview in more detail exactly which level you would be. If you do not have experience in a classroom setting, unfortunately we cannot help at this time due to the nature of supply. However, many schools are happy to accept volunteers and we would suggest contact some of your local schools directly.
Do you use umbrella companies for my pay?
We like to do things right and that’s why we don’t use third party umbrella companies and instead treat our supply teachers in a transparent and ethical way. We handle all payroll in-house, covering the fees for each payroll run as well as paying National Insurance contributions and holiday pay at the full average hourly rate. For more information, please listen to our Managing Director, Bill Colman, explain this in more detail below.
How can I apply for work?
Because we pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and are committed to the safeguarding of children, WorkwithSchools have a thorough Clearance checking process before we place people in schools.
We are happy to accept CVs for initial applications, although before we complete your registration for supply work we ask all teachers and support staff to complete our application form. Once you have found the job you’re interested in on our website, you can download an application form to print and complete and then upload it along with your CV. Alternatively, you can print and return your completed application form to Workwith Schools, Top Floor, 5/6 Kings Court, The Shambles, York YO1 7LD.
We also require details of two referees who can comment on your abilities in a classroom (we will only clear teachers with good or excellent references for work to ensure the highest quality). One of your referees should be from your last/most recent employer and referees should not be family members or friends.
How do I get paid for temporary bookings?
We are very aware of how difficult it is to get a paper timesheet signed at the end of a school day, so we have an online timesheet system where you can input your hours ‘on the go’.
Once approved by the school you get paid on a weekly basis, (a week in arrears). You will have access to all your previous timesheets and payslips online to keep your own records.
Who do I contact if I have a query regarding my timesheets or payment?
You will need to contact our payroll department which is open Monday-Friday from 8.30am-5.00pm – please call 01904 551065 or speak to a consultant on 01904 554195.
How do I book holidays?
To request holidays please complete our holiday request form. If you are in a long term assignment you will need to agree it with the authoriser at the school.
Will I be entitled to Sick Pay?
You may be able to claim statutory sick pay (SSP) if you meet the right criteria, for more information please see this SSP guidance.
Do you offer a Pension for supply teachers and support staff?
Yes, provided you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be auto-enrolled into our provider, NEST Pensions, once you have worked for us for at least four weeks. For more information on the terms of the scheme and eligibility please see NEST’s website.
I have applied for work and have not been contacted
This could be for any number of reasons, your references are not suitable, or your sector experience or required skills do not match current jobs. It could also be based on information you gave us, for example, you were looking for part time work only, can only commit to a certain number of hours etc. If in doubt, then please call us on 01904 554195.
Do I have to accept any work I am offered?
There is no obligation for you to accept any work WorkwithSchools offers or for us to provide work. Allocation of work is entirely at our discretion and based around skills, availability and the requirements of our schools.
Can WorkwithSchools help me with sponsorship/visa to work in the UK, unpaid work experience or apprenticeships?
As a recruitment agency we are UNABLE to offer sponsorship or assistance with obtaining visas, unpaid work experience (as we only provide paid work) or apprenticeships.
