WorkwithSchools are delighted to announce a series of FREE CPD sessions specifically targeted at supply teachers. Many organisations provide training for teachers which is always helpful but supply teachers cover a niche sector and the day in the life of a supply teacher is very different to that of a teacher with a long term or permanent class.
The first of our sessions took place on Tuesday 13th November on EFL, led by Jo Nolan Thomas, an experienced teacher / trainer with many years of EFL and ESOL experience. The session was held at our offices in the centre of York at 22 Pavement. Jo provided strategies, free resources and places to find more information and all of the participants found it extremely useful. As the numbers of EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students in the York and North Yorkshire areas has increased several times over in recent years, it can be a daunting task addressing the needs of these students without guidance and support and so this training area was essential.
“Thank you very much for investing in us and providing FREE sessions, it shows that you value your supply teachers”
“Thank you for arranging the training. The content was spot-on, and the delivery pacy and entertaining. I don’t know how you are going to top that! It was good to meet other supply teachers too.”
“I thought the EFL training was excellent. The venue was perfect: she was pacy and to the point; I have often wondered how to help these children effectively. There were a lot of easy ideas, hints and tips and it was useful to know the different levels as well. The snacks and drinks were a very welcome and welcoming touch as well. Thanks again – really appreciated and makes you feel valued as an educator”
“Thank you very much for organising the training. I found it really useful, a perfect duration and entertainingly presented. The venue too was excellent, very accessible, enhanced by the delicious bites provided!”
“Just to say I thought the EFL training was excellent. The venue was perfect: she was pacy and to the point; I have often wondered how to help these children effectively. Coming up later this month (Tuesday 20th November) is training on inspiring writers, a task many supply teachers find tricky especially when dealing with reluctant writers. In the session we will discuss and use a range of practical literacy ideas which engage and inspire children’s development in talk and writing, all in the context of supply teaching.
Following that on 27th November is a session on delivering computer science, something many supply teachers find daunting, which will be looking at computation thinking, algorithms, Scratch and accessing free resources.
Sessions to follow later in the academic year are Maths Mastery, Provision Areas in EYFS and Supporting SEN learners.
Like the EFL training, all of the above sessions have been developed with a specific focus on supply teachers and will provide our candidates with the opportunity to meet fellow supply colleagues while learning something extremely valuable.
To be eligible for our CPD sessions you need to be a supply teacher registered with WorkwithSchools. For more info and to enquire about spaces on any of our courses or to suggest other training areas please get in touch on 01904 554195.
