With schools closing across the country during this difficult time, WorkwithSchools will be highlighting some wonderful resources from the UK and around the world, to support the ‘work from home learning experience’ across all key stages.

Here are some ideas for lower primary students courtesy of Teach This.  It  will provide parents and students with engaging and effective resources to continue to boost reading and handwriting.

Foundation

For individual letters of the alphabet, including letter formation and most common sounds, log into a Wonder Words account and go to the Letters and Letter Sounds’ tab and print the relevant content in your chosen school font.

For introducing sight words, go to the ‘High Frequency sight Words 0-200’ tab and from each set relevant to your students, look at:

worksheets that focus on one word per page,

the colour by sight word colouring page (colour by sight word) and

‘I Spy Sight Words’

Print the game ‘Sight Word Match’

Print 3x levelled mini-book readers

If students are learning sight words register with the ‘Story Hollow’ Wonder Words app, to continue to access the app at home.

Year 1

If students are working on Sets A1 – T2 (Words 1-200 (Animal Kingdom)):

Log into Wonder Words and visit the Members Area. Access the ‘High Frequency Sight Words 0-200’ tab and from each set relevant to your students, we recommend printing either option of 7 or 11-pages per student of content per week:

The individual worksheets that focus on one word per page (the ‘Roll and Write’ worksheet is a great 1-page alternative for the week),

the colour by sight word colouring page and

‘I Spy Sight Words’

Print the game ‘Sight Word Match’

Print 3x levelled mini-book readers

Make sure students are all registered with the ‘Story Hollow’ Wonder Words app, as they can continue to access the app at home.

If your students are working on Sets U1 onwards (Words 201-300 (Dinosaur Land)), we recommend printing 7-pages per week of content per student to send home:

Access the ‘High Frequency Sight Words 201-300’ tab and from each set relevant to your students, print the following:

Sight Word Fun

Finding Sight Words

Cloze Passage

Print the game ‘Sight Word Match’ or ‘Snakes and Ladders’

Print 3x levelled mini-book readers

Year 2

If students working at the Dinosaur Land level, which is Set U1 onwards (Words 201-300) and if this is the case, we recommend printing 7-pages per week of content per student to send home:

Access the High Frequency Sight Words 201-300’ tab and from each set relevant to your students, print the following:

Sight Word Fun

Finding Sight Words

Cloze Passage

Print the game ‘Sight Word Match’ or ‘Snakes and Ladders’

Print 3x levelled mini-book readers

For more advanced students, we suggest two of the worksheets from the Dinosaur Land level, which is Set U1 onwards (Words 201-300). These activities will provide practise in spelling and comprehension:

Access the High Frequency sight Words 201-300’ tab and from each set relevant to your students, print the following:

  1. Finding Sight Words
  2. Cloze Passage
